Ethnic Mon who is called Tailing by Western historians is one of the first groups of Burmese people livng in areas near Thailand. Similar to other minority ethnic groups, the Mon kingdom was invaded gradually by the neighbors, making their existence and influence blurred. Currently, the Mon were fully assimilated with the Burmese and cannot distinguish between the two groups. The features of the art of the Mon are also borrowed by other ethnic groups.
However, the Mon accounts for 2% of the population of Myanmar, but the art and culture of the Mon have significant impact in the lives of the Burmese people.
