The opening ceremony for the "Training on Making Tourism More Sustainable in Cultural Heritage Destinations in the Post-Pandemic" was held on August 26 at the Golden Palace Hotel in Bagan City, under the 2023 Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund. Deputy Minister U Phyo Zaw Soe explained that this training was initiated following the Seminar on Making Tourism More Sustainable in Cultural Heritage Destinations, which took place on August 23 in Bagan, attended by representatives and experts from Mekong-Lancang member states.
Myanmar’s hotel and tourism sector has seen the implementation of four projects funded by the 2021-2023 Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund: the establishment of the Tourism Research Centre in 2021, the Bakery & Pastry Training project in 2022, the construction of the Centre for Tourism Development in Keng Tung in 2023, and the project focused on making tourism more sustainable in cultural heritage destinations in Bagan.
The Deputy Minister highlighted that these projects promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge among Mekong-Lancang members, address challenges faced in the post-pandemic period, and help develop management policies and sustainable strategies for preserving cultural heritage sites. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to leveraging successful project management to revitalize the tourism industry. He also urged trainees to apply theoretical concepts related to cultural heritage preservation, tourism management policies and procedures, tourism promotion, and human resource development strategies in practical situations, contributing to the sustainable development of Myanmar’s tourism sector. The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister, officials from relevant departments, hotel and tourism associations, civil service organizations, hotel managers, trainers, and trainees. — NN/KK
