Myanmar, strategically situated in Southeast Asia, boasts unspoiled beaches, towering mountain ranges, archipelagos, and fertile plains. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing highlighted that over 500,000 travelers visited the country in the first five months of 2024, with expectations that this number will surpass last year’s figures. Speaking at the World Tourism Day 2024 event at the Myanmar International Convention Centre II in Nay Pyi Taw, the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, emphasized Myanmar's natural beauty, cultural heritage, and the traditional lifestyles of its ethnic groups as key attractions for international tourists. He noted that over one million foreign visitors came to Myanmar in 2023 and expressed optimism for further growth in 2024.
The Senior General stressed the government's commitment to strengthening the tourism sector as a way to boost the national economy. He also highlighted the State Administration Council's focus on advancing the peace process, urging ethnic leaders to work with the government for regional development and peace. He emphasized the need for stability, reducing violence, and ensuring peaceful conditions for the socio-economic advancement of ethnic communities.
Ministries and tourism organizations were called upon to improve tourism services and spread accurate information regarding safe travel to Myanmar. The Senior General encouraged collaboration between tourism businesses and the government to secure long-term growth for Myanmar's tourism industry, in line with the 2024 theme of "Tourism and Peace." He also viewed a message from the World Tourism Organization’s secretary-general and presented awards to winners of various contests held to celebrate World Tourism Day.
