Estimated 11th century but extensively repaired in 1783 Original merit attributed to King Anawrahta (r. 1044-1077) Renovated by King Bodaw Paya (r.1782-1819) founder of the Konbaung Dynasty
The library was believed built by Anawrahta to store the thirty sets of the Buddhist canon he had brought from Thaton in 1057. It is uncertain if the library was ever damaged but extensive renovations were made in the 18th century so Very few traces of Bagan style remains.
