Among several caves, Saddar is a must-see one in Hpa An. It is about 20 km from Hpa An center and taking a motorcycle taxi is the most convenient way to reach Saddar Cave on a Myanmar tour.
At the beginning of the entrance to Saddar Cave, there are two elephants and a staircase in the middle leading inside. Stupas, wall golden frescoes, and Buddhas statues are placed all along the walking path. After visiting the pagoda, there is one road leading to the underground part of the cave. Be prepared with a torch if going alone since it is pretty dark down there. Walking carefully through numerous slippery, muddy, damp and steep steps can be a bit difficult and tiring but interesting at the same time because you can see various stalagmites, stalactites, and other cave structures.
After more than 15 minute walk, the end of the cave or the so-called ‘Hell on Earth’ is a home for thousands of bats fluttering around screaming hysterically which might be annoying at first but it takes some time to get used to.
From the cave exit, a picturesque lake surrounded by limestone and trees comes into sight. It is highly recommended to take a wooden boat ride by the locals and rejoice in the tranquil atmosphere accompanied with spectacular scenes. On the far side of the lake, there is another half-blooded cave where you can ask to be paddled by the local fishers to experience the appealing cave structure there.
