Estimated early 12th century Merit attributed to the monk Shin Sapada.
This is the earliest spire in Bagan, believed built within a few years after 1181 when Shin Sapada returned from Sri Lanka. The design is believed to be based on the ones in Sri Lanka, where he studied for 10 years. Many of the spire in Bagan or the towers on top of temples roofs are in this shape.
