Estimated 12th century
Dating back to more than 10 centuries ago, Somin Gyi Pagoda is one of the stunning destinations to visit in Bagan tours. The pagoda has green-glazed decorations, many of them decayed by now but the beauty of the glaze is still apparent.
The monastery seemed to have been a grand meditation center but now only its ruins show where the main courtyard was, lined with small cells. The double-story shrine with traces of paintings has its back to the Ayeyarwaddy River. The cells on either side of it have square windows that look out over the grassy banks and the river.
